Christmas Traditions

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is filled with so many different traditions. Here are some traditions of our Micah & Co team. We hope it can initiate some ideas for you and your family to make the most of your Christmas season.

Lyndsi

We buy new family Christmas PJ's! My kids pick out a new ornament each year for their tree, and the kids exchange gifts to each other on Christmas Eve. We go look at Christmas lights and call it " Jingle Bell Hunting,"  we get in pj's, bring hot chocolate  and "get lost"  hunting for jingle bells.

Amber

I give a box to each child that has new PJ's, an ornament that represents each child that year to decorate their own tree. We go see the Yukon lights as a family, we also do Christmas crafts like Gingerbread houses and Christmas cookies. Instead of Elf on the Shelf, we do the Shepherd's Treasure!

Mychelle

We watch tons of Christmas movies and bake treats all month long.  We go overboard on outdoor decorations and lights, and each year we add to it.  My in-laws buy my kids something from Carole Towne each year.  We like to drive around looking at Christmas lights, and drinking hot chocolate.  The kids get to pick out one gift each on Christmas Eve to open.  My husband reads a Christmas story every Christmas Eve.  This year I made a drink from a client called Wassil (I will do this every year now)!

Lauren

My family decorates on Black Friday.  We drive around looking at Christmas lights in our pj's! We go to the candlelight service at her church.  Every Christmas we give each kid a pearl, they add it to a string and take a picture of our kids with their pearls, our daughter will wear hers on her wedding day and our son will give his to his wife on his wedding day!

Joie

My family makes Christmas videos each year that recaps everything that happened in the last year.  We watch all the videos together leading up to the year they are in! (We started this in 2004).

Micah

Now that my kids are older, they spend $20 at a thrift store for the “worst dressed contest” on Christmas Eve. We do one gift each on Christmas Eve, crazy puzzles, watching Christmas movies and looking at Christmas lights in pj's. We get a new ornament every year. I want to start making Wassil each year as well! It’s like Christmas in a cup.

Some things we are starting this year as newlyweds: Putting the tree up and watching Elf, DIY Christmas Activity (each year I want us to pick a DIY project whether it be decor, ugly sweater, etc.), but it's something we see yearly that we worked on and made together! Something unique about us is every other year, we will go to Colombia to visit Danny's family so that's kind of a tradition I guess!

Avery

Every Christmas Eve after church, my brother and I get pajamas to wear for Christmas morning, and an ornament that represents our year for the tree! After that, we always watch Elf and my Dad makes a party mix every December that we look forward to all year round and snack on during the movie. And a big family breakfast with cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning!

Happy Holidays everyone! We hope your holidays are filled with relaxation, and time with the ones you love. We would love to hear some of your Holiday traditions down below in the comments!
