Tile Talk

Tile selection for your home should be an area in which you have some design fun! Tile can make a huge design statement in your home. With so many options available, it can be daunting to select just one. Today, I am going to provide you with some tips to make tile selections a breeze.

One of the most exciting trends in the design industry right now is creative tile lays!

There are numerous ways to lay tile. This is an area where you can truly express your design style.

Below, you will find some tile lays:

Now that you have seen several ways to lay tile, let’s talk about tile materials and COST.

Three of the most commonly used tile types are ceramic, porcelain, and marble.

Ceramic tile is made from clay and natural materials, which are kiln fired to create a durable surface. A benefit to ceramic tile is that it is one of the most long-lasting flooring options on the market. It will continue to look amazing for years to come. Ceramic tile can be also a great, budget-friendly option!

Porcelain tile, like ceramic, is made from clay and natural materials. However, the clay has a finer grain, and needs to be fired at a much higher kiln temperature. Due to this, porcelain is even more durable than ceramic. Porcelain tile is typically more expensive than ceramic, but if selected appropriately, will not break the budget.

Marble is a naturally occurring material that has been removed from metamorphic rock and then exposed to high pressure and temperature to create a smooth and refined texture. Marble tile is a great option, however, it is not as durable as ceramic or porcelain. Marble tile, although beautiful, comes with a higher price point, which is something to keep in mind while shopping.

Here are Three of my favorite TILE tips:

Larger tiles will make a smaller space appear larger.

Rectangular tiles will make a space appear wider or taller.

Square tiles will make a space feel more modern.
