10 Inexpensive Home Updates You Can Accomplish TODAY!

Now that we are spending more time in our homes than ever before, have you found yourself wishing you could make some home improvements? Today, the Micah and Co. Team wanted to share our Top 10 favorite tips for easy home improvements that can be accomplished today!

Tip #1: Remove The Clutter

We all have items we don’t want, need, or even like that are in our home. Take the time to purge out anything that doesn’t have meaning or speak to your current design style. Pack it away in a box in the garage and have it ready for marketplace or a garage sale when the time comes.

Tip #2: Rearrange Your Furniture

I love to try new ways for furniture placement. Keep an open mind and try to position it differently. This will quickly provide your space with a fresh feeling. If you can’t move anything large around, then try to rearrange the accent tables, pillows, and other small items to give your space a face lift!

Tip#3: Order New Cabinet Hardware

If you have outdated hardware, updating it can be relatively inexpensive! Ensure you have accurate measurements of the pull size so that your new hardware will line-up with existing holes in your cabinets or drawers. I am a sucker for crystal knobs! Adding crystal knobs in a utility room or bathroom is a fun way to add a little sparkle. You can purchase a 12 pack from Amazon for around 10 dollars! It’s a great way to add a timeless sparkle to any part of your home.

Tip #4:Paint

We all have paint in the garage… why not see what you have and paint a piece of furniture! If you dare to get out and purchase some, painting a room is one of best ways to update a space! See our team’s Top Paint Colors of 2022 below for some inspiration.

TiP #5: Add Plants

As we all try to stay healthy, adding fresh plants are a great way to add literal life to your home! There are many resources to buy plants online. West Elm has a great selection of plants and pots!

Tip #6: Update Photos

We all have frames with photos from years ago! Why not update with new pictures! If you have some empty frames sitting around, paint them or find a place to hang them. You can order photos to be printed and mailed straight to your home, as well!

Tip #7: Create A Personalized Coffee Table Book

Yes, you can simply purchase a coffee table book online, but why not make a book that is about past family vacations for yourself or a family member instead? They are super easy and fun to create! You could even get your kids involved and make it a family project! Shutterfly is running a special of 50% off their hardcover books right now, with many great options to choose from. Tip#8: Purchase New Accessories

New pillows or throws can completely change the look of your furniture and your overall space! We love pillows… can we get an amen?!? Even just two new pillows can freshen up a space. Target has a great selection of throw pillows and they are usually on sale! Click here for Target Throw Pillows. Curtains can also freshen up a space! I love neutral curtains personally… but if you dare to have fun check out Half Priced Drapes! They have a BOGO sale going on! Click here for Curtains. Be sure to hang them right and use the graphic below for guidance! Buy them long enough and hang them wide to frame your space appropriately.

Tip #9: Tidy Up

As much as I hate to admit it, a good deep clean can make you feel so much better about your home! My son, Ezra, doesn’t know it yet but he will be cleaning ALL the baseboards in the house! I have been cleaning like a mad woman the last few days and it can seem like the more you clean, the more you find out just how much more needs to be cleaned! I am cleaning my windows, baseboards, and cabinet fronts this week! Well, my kids will be! LOL

#10 Define Your Personal Style

Lastly, if you can’t spend a dime right now, we get it. What you can do is spend a little time defining and refining your style. Find inspirational photos and organize them by room. You can create folders in Instagram and create boards with Pinterest. You can detail out your style, colors and create a purchase list for the future so you have a vision and know what to budget for. It’s a great way to plan and save money in the long run because you have solidified what you want and won’t make purchases that don’t go with your new design goals.
