A Designer's Guide to Mixing Metal Finishes

There are many different metal finishes these days! It can be difficult to know which finishes pair best with one another. Today, we are bringing our designer knowledge to the forefront as we provide a guide to our favorite metal finishes and how to pair them with one another. These finishes include nickel, chrome, champagne gold, brass, and black.

Nickel

There is something really special about nickel tones! Nickel is unique due to its warm undertone. Nickel typically comes in two different finishes, polished, which will sparkle and shine, and brushed, which provides a more matte look. Because of nickel’s warm undertones, nickel pairs well with gold tones when mixing metal finishes in one space.

Chrome

Unlike nickel, chrome shines due to its cool undertones! But like nickel, it also comes in two finishes, polished and brushed. We love pairing chrome with black to keep the cool tones cohesive. However, we also love pairing chrome with gold for a more bold look.

Champagne Bronze

Champagne bronze provides a soft, warm feel to any space. Typically, champagne bronze sports a brushed finish rather than polished finish. We love pairing champagne bronze with nickel and black tones to provide visual interest to a space.

Brass

Brass is the warmest in undertone of all of the metal finishes we are discussing today. We love brass for its bright quality. This finish simply pops no matter where you place it! We love combining brass with black to create the timeless with an edge look we are always seeking.

Black

Last, but certainly not least, a Micah and Co. staple - black! Using black metal in your home is always a timeless choice. Typically, a matte finish is provided with black metals. Due to its neutrality in undertone, black can typically be paired with any of the previous metals.

We would love to help you with the metal finish selections for your home. We love the thoughtful touches mixing metals can provide to a space. It truly can make the space feel timeless, with an edge.
