What to Expect: Electrical Walk

Lighting design can have an incredible impact on your home. Lighting that is selected and placed with intention can dramatically impact the overall design of a space. At the electric walk, our team will talk through lighting placement, light switch placement, thermostat placement, outlet placement, and several other items involved in the lighting selection process.

Be Prepared!

This walk can be an overwhelming meeting if you don’t come prepared! We will always bring a copy of your plans, Design Board, and a measuring tape to this meeting. The plans help us make sure the door swings are appropriate for switch placements. Your plans come with suggested electrical placement, but most of the time, there are changes needed. We will mark the new plans for the electrician with any needed changes! The design board will help us discuss lighting placement. For example, do you prefer overhead vanity lighting or lighting on the sides of your mirrors? We will take measurements on site at this time to ensure the perfectly sized selection is made for your space.

It’s All In The Details

Outlets: with as many items we use today, this is vital to think through during this site visit! We talk through each room and how the room will function for you and your family. Do you have several computers that need specific outlet placement, do we need a charging station, electric shades, under-cabinet lighting, in cabinet outlets, outlets in the pantry at counter height for the coffee station, specific outlets for charging the mop? We even like to bring up Christmas lights! Who has designed a home based on where you’re putting the Christmas tree?! Soffit outlets can make stringing exterior lights a breeze and this simple addition is equivalent to the cost of one or two extension cords!

Inside and Out

We will walk through the entire home, interior and exterior, to ensure all selections are accounted for on your lighting take-off. At the end of the meeting, we have a comprehensive list of all the lighting selections with notes on sizes to use for our selection meeting. We also tally up how many can lights, flood lights, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and even the doorbell!

Lighting selection can truly make your home feel custom to you and your family. We love helping our clients perfectly place and select their lighting for maximum design impact. Want us to help you with the lighting design in your home or office? Click here to work with us!
