THIS AND THAT

In the design world, there are so many terms that are thrown into the mix, it is hard to keep them all straight. Today, I want to talk about a few design terms that come up often in my design process.

VINTAGE VS ANTIQUE

While both of these terms speak to the age of an item, they are different from each other. “Vintage” refers to an item that is less than 100 years old, while “antique” is used for items older than 100 years! Use vintage and antique pieces to give your home a unique, personalized feel.

CANE VS WICKER

Cane and wicker pieces can add warm tones to a neutral space. This gives the feeling of life in your space! Cane comes from a vine, which is removed and woven into sheets. Wicker, however, comes from plant sticks and branches that are woven together to form objects like chairs or baskets. I love a good wicker basket!

MODERN VS CONTEMPORARy

Modern and Contemporary are both design periods that I know well and love! “Modern” design was developed at the beginning of the 20th century. It includes many elements that I enjoy: warm wood tones, earthy greens, and clean lines. “Contemporary” design, however, is not linked to a certain period of time, but rather refers to current design trends. I love combining classic designs with contemporary elements to create the home of your dreams!
