How to Decorate a Christmas Tree Like a Designer

It is the most wonderful time of the year- time for Christmas decorating! You can have so much fun with your holiday decor. Whether you prefer the classic reds and greens, blues and silvers, or golds and whites, you can really make your home feel extra special this time of year.

Today, I wanted to share with you the method I use to decorate a Christmas tree, the biggest statement maker of your holiday decor!

Step One: The Set-Up

The first step in your tree decorating process is selecting the location for your Christmas tree in your home, removing the it from its box, and assembling it. Don’t forget to fluff up all of the branches for maximum tree fullness! The fluff is a must.

Step Two: Turn Up the Lights

After your tree has been assembled, the next step is adding the main lights. If your tree already has lights installed, you get to skip this step!

Step Three: Add Large Ribbon

I love adding large ribbon to fill any gaps in the tree branches. It really adds visual weight to the tree in a light and fun way! I start at the top of the tree, tucking the end of my ribbon into the back side of the tree so it cannot be seen. I wrap the ribbon from the top of the tree to the bottom of the tree, keeping my ribbon is flat horizontally as I can while wrapping.

Step Four: The Bigger, The Better

After your ribbon has been added to your Christmas tree, the next step is to add large ornaments. I like to visually take a moment to examine my tree, taking mental note of any large gaps in the foliage. Then, I addd the larger ornaments to these spaces first. After that, I fill in the tree with any remaining large ornaments.

Step Five: Accessorize

Now that your lights, large ribbon, and large ornaments have been installed, it is time to have some real fun! At this point, you can begin to add any accessories that you would like to your Christmas tree. For this Christmas tree, we added some silver and green picks!

Step Six: The Details

This step is where your Christmas tree’s theme can really shine! Add smaller ornaments to the tree to make it feel special to you. You can add your tree skirt when you are finished placing ornaments, too!

Step Seven: The Top

Last, but definitely not least, add your Christmas tree topper, and your tree is complete!

I hope that you found this Christmas Tree decorating guide helpful. I also hope that you have a wonderful Christmas season this year! This truly is the most wonderful time of the year.
