What to Expect: Countertop Selection

Have you ever looked at a countertop slab and stood in awe? These incredible pieces are created in a majestic process involving heat and pressure deep within the Earth’s surface over a geological timescale.  All of us here at Micah and Co. have a favorite countertop surface that makes us speechless! If you ever go to a countertop supplier and walk around for awhile, you will know what we’re talking about! There are so many beautiful options to choose from and we love helping our clients make the perfect selections for their home based on their style, functionality, and budget!

We Come Prepared!

Either your designer or your builder can suggest their favorite local vendors for your countertop selection meeting. When you arrive at this meeting, you can rest assured that we are prepared to help minimize the stress of making countertop selections, as we know it is an important part of the overall aesthetic of your home. There can be an overwhelming number of choices, so we arrive early to make preselections for you! We’ll have your updated design board printed, which is full of inspiration to help guide the selections for each area in your home.

What Are You Made Of?

An important note to remember: it’s not just about what the countertop looks like, but also what material it is made from! Our design team knows the pros and cons of marble, granite, quartz, quartzite, concrete, soapstone, and butcher block to help you choose the best material to suit the functionality of the space. We also love shopping the remnant pieces available for small spaces like powder baths. This is a great way to get a piece that may be out of budget at cost savings since you don’t have to purchase the entire slab.

It’s All In The Details!

Once countertop selections are made, we will help you with the details, such as the type of edge, the overall thickness of the countertop, height of the backsplashes, and any outlet cutouts. Builders tend to have some basic standards when deciding these features, but we have some not-so-standard choices we like using to help make your home feel timeless and special. During this meeting, we will also help you select your sinks for each space and account for holes needed for plumbing fixtures. If you want to add stone to your windowsills, that will also be determined at this time.

We Did It!

After all selections are made, we will email you, your builder, and the supplier our countertop selections form which includes every detail we discussed during our meeting. This will help keep everyone on the same page and reduce any confusion.
